Chart of the week – Stagflation-lite US
The US Federal Reserve looks set to cut the funds rate at its 17 September meeting. While recent data suggests inflation is picking-up in places, it’s the deteriorating labour data that is driving expectations of an imminent rate cut. But while the prospect of Fed cuts plus an AI surge are boosting stocks, the macro signals point to "stagflation lite" – weaker growth and still warm inflation.
